Vendor: Once by Brenda Low

(Once by Brenda Low Spring 09 Collection- throughout)
For designer Brenda Low, once is not enough—except when it comes to the name of her clothing label. Taking a second look at garments and repurposing or redesigning them to give them a second chance is the modus operandi behind her label “Once,” which she has been creating for the past four years. And she’s approaching this project with decades of experience in designing and sewing.

Giving second hand items more than a once over, Brenda gives old pieces new life. “I enjoy finding creative ways to reuse objects and materials,” she states. “I believe there is beauty in all things and that we often cast off objects and overlook their value and potential. I view those casts offs with a quirky perspective and create new designs/garments/accessories with them.”
But its not just to the past that she’s looking—her re-definitions might go in any direction. Inspiration comes from a variety of sources, as evidenced in her east meets the future spring 2009 collection shown here. Showing a flair for juxtaposition with Indian silks and metallic lycra, Brenda seems a good fit for Calgary’s art scene. As Brenda says, “I’m young at heart and am just jumping into the art and culture scene – it is nontraditional and that is exciting.”

You can check out a vast variety of pieces that she will be bringing to the PARKSALE this year- fashion garments; accessories like bags, hoods, scarves and belts, jewelry, and even costume pieces and masks. This is the second time “Once” is making an appearance at the PARKSALE, and this is one helping of seconds we’re happy to have!
