Adam Stennett. Mouse on Flower at Olana. 2005. Oil on wood, 24 x 24 inches
The so real-it’s-hyperreal paintings of Brooklyn artist Adam Stennett make a fascinating statement about what picture perfect is. Frequently capturing the mundane in mice, dogs and household items, Stennett’s incredible effort produces paintings that look like snapshots. His skill blows my mind, but the value he gives to the everyday is what really gets to me. There’s something beautiful to discover in every juxtaposition and detail, even in a mouse dangling from a flower. Stennett presents it all clearly for you to see for yourself.
Putting together over seventy different vendors with their own perspectives and ways of looking at things, the PARKSALE is something you’re going to want to see for yourself, too. In a time where a lot of things about the future and in the wide world out there are uncertain- we’ve got the economic crisis, global warming, H1N1 all circling in our newspapers and TV screens and realities- taking another look at what’s in front of us and going from there is a great way to get inspired.
Starting with our local, we’re inviting people to check out Calgary’s young thinkers and creators and makers of beautifu things, and challenging the community of Calgary to take a look at what’s right under their noses: a huge amount of awesome and skilled points of view. It’s going to be even more exciting to see where everyone goes once we’ve gotten to meet them.
What they have to offer is almost unreal, when you look closely- and the park’s going to be full of beautiful, clever, and thought-provoking works to see up close and personally.
