It’s been raining in Calgary… kind of reminds me of last June. Rain all month, what little tan I had from my semester in Montreal fading quickly in the drizzle. But you know what the rain brings- we just like to take our time here in Calgary and pull out the April showers/May flowers deal a little later. Some rain is always good for green growth, right? And you know what’s at the end of the rainbow? Or, at least at the end of June?
Last year’s PARKSALE was more than we could ever dream of for the first time our notion of an ourdoor flea market with a heart could be, and it truly was the perfect start to summer. We had beautiful weather, amazing vendors, a great location and lots of interested visitors, not to mention some sweet sharing of arts and design, the first ever PARKSALE set a stellar precedent. Hundreds of people of all ages turned out to enjoy a groovy afternoon of culture and artwork produced by Calgary’s young adults.
This year is a little wiser, a little more experience, but still hoping for the happy coincidences, meetings, and kismet that propelled the success of our first try. We were able to use all that watering and keep it green in more ways than one, with the sunny park we inhabited, the low impact installation of our work, and sustainable designers and artists we featured.
Now, with not only the first PARKSALE under our belts, but the fashion show and art sale PARKSHOW last March and all the interesting people we’ve met, connected with and shared in art, design and culture, this whole growing culture in Calgary thing is working out pretty nicely.
Chim chim to PARKSALE 2009- incubation’s almost over, the perrenial bulb is about to bloom and this baby’s heavier and bound to be even more of a flower child-party animal-eclectomaniac. Calgary weather can be everything in one day, but here’s to keeping the everything-in-one to the PARKSALE and the weather to a sunny day.
